Sam had a real estate conference in San Diego on Nov 18 & 19. We thought it would be fun to drop the kids off at my parents house and have a few days of fun and relaxation to ourselves in San Diego. We stayed right on Mission Bay and the water was only 20 ft from the hotel. The first night we were there we did a little shopping and walked along Mission Bay, it was beautiful and so calming just Sam and I.
We planned what fun things we could do and had dinner at Olive Garden. The all you can eat salad is the first time since being pregnant that I could eat something without my stomach instantly hurting. Sam had one plate of salad and I ate the rest (minus the tomatoes, onions, peppers, and crutons). It felt so good to just eat. I tried one bite of my fettucine and my stomach hurt so I asked for a second bowl of salad and it was wonderful.
This is where my dream turned to a nightmare. We got back to the hotel and I noticed I had started spotting. I was freaked out because with the two other pregnancies I had never spotted. I went to bed and hoped the rest would make it go away. The next morning everything seemed fine even though I was having some cramping as I dropped Sam off at his conference so I could have the car to go shopping. I took a nice long bath and laid down in the bed to watch some TV. All of a sudden I felt like I was leaking and quickly realized I was bleeding. I called my dr and was waiting for a call back. I texted Sam and started looking up hospitals on the internet. The bleeding seemed to be getting worse and I didnt know what to do so I text Sam that I was driving myself to the hospital and I would keep letting him know what was happening.
I got to the hospital totally freaked out and I wished I had the words to rant and rave and say all the horrible feelings I have about that ER. Basically it was a giant waiting game, a sitting in the waiting room for 5 hours not knowing if I had miscarried or not. They did a whole lot of nothing durning that five hours. They have a horrible system to make people feel like they are going to be next. After 1 1/2 hrs Sam arrived via taxi and all they had done was do an initial blood pressure check and gave me a bracelet. After Sam got there they did take me back to talk to a nurse and get all my information. An hour later they took me to ultrasound and told Sam he had to stay in the waiting room. I did get to see the baby's heartbeat so I felt a little better, they told me I just had to wait for the radiologist to read the ultrasound like I was almost done. An hour later they took my blood pressure again. Another hour later another blood pressure check and they finally took my insurance card. We asked yet again where I was in line and they said 2nd. Around the five hour mark they took me back for yet another blood pressure check and told me that the next available room was mine so we walked back to the room and I finally got to lay down.
We waited for a half an hour in the room and the doctor finally came and told me that I had a hemorrage on my placenta but it was promising that I was past 12 weeks (I was 13 weeks 4 days). He said to rest but no study had shown that resting would help because if I was going to miscarry I would there was nothing to stop it. He also went on to tell us that if I miscarried it was for the best because most miscarries are due to genetic problems. He wanted a blood test and yelled at the nurses that they hadn't gotten blood on a possible miscarriage before I was in a room. We told the dr we were ready to leave so he said we could after the blood draw and he would call with the results only if he needed to. So we told the nurse we were leaving and she had this clueless look on her face and said she would get the discharge papers. We waited for 15 mins and didn't see anyone so we left without being discharged because we just couldnt take it anymore.
